Click Luxury Vinyl Flooring Fitting Instructions

Click Luxury Vinyl Flooring, LVT, (sometimes referred to as click vinyl flooring) is known to be easy and quick to install. This makes it an ideal choice for DIY, which in turn makes it cheaper when it comes to fitting costs. Here, we take a look at the fitting instructions for this type of flooring.

Prepare Your Subfloor

Before you can begin installing your click LVT, it is crucial to prepare the subfloor. For easy and professional looking fitting, your subfloor needs to be smooth, dry, level and clean. Make any necessary repairs and then put down your underlay. We do recommend thin underlay. Some of our new lines of rigid LVT come with build in Underlay which obviously will not required any additional.

Fitting

Click luxury vinyl tiles are installed using the floating method. This means that the tiles are clicked into place with each other, and not fixed directly to the subfloor. An anti-slip underlay will help to stop it moving as much while you work. The first thing that you need to do is consider which orientation is best for your planks in the space you have. Running the planks parallel to the longest wall will give the illusion the room is longer, widthways, and the room will appear larger.

Length of Planks

One thing that you want to avoid is having very small pieces of plank to lay at the ends of rows, so measure the length of the room to plan carefully how you should arrange them. It can be a good idea to avoid having any planks under 50mm in length.

Fitting Your LVT

  1. Begin by using a utility knife to remove the click system from one side of a plank – this will allow it to fit flush against the wall. Do this for the entire first row.
  2. You should begin on the left side of the starting wall. Use spacers between both the short and long side of the plank and don’t forget to place then between the plank and the wall to allow an expansion gap.
  3. Insert the tongue side of the second plank into the groove of the first. Run over the seam with a roller to ensure they are connected properly. Repeat until you have an entire row.
  4. The last plank will require cutting so measure the gap between the wall and previous plank – remember your spacer. (cut the plank by scoring with a utility knife and then snapping on the scored line).
  5. If the piece you don’t need it over 20cm use this to begin the next row.
  6. Click the long side of the new rows plank into the first row.
  7. The second plank is a little tricker, position the long side with the tongue side overlapping the grooves of the previous row. Pivot the plank downward and fit the short sides together. Alternatively, click the entire row together and then attach them to the previous row. Remember to use your roller.
  8. You may need to cut the final row down. Measure and cut carefully before fitting in the same way as other rows.
Once you are finished remove the spacers at the edge of the room.

Now you know just how easy it is to install your new flooring, you’re sure to be able to install a new floor that looks great.
